from a local or international instructor,
performer, or dancer.

are from Josie Neglia and
Jose Valencia of the Josie

1.
Have fun! Don't take
yourself too seriously and stay modest.
Don't mistake social dancing with
competitive dancing, don't fight with
your dance partner, just enjoy the
dance in the moment and learn from
errors. We are always learning and
sometimes even create our best from
mistakes.
2.
Spend time on the basics. Learn the
fundamental Latin movement technique
from trained technical pros. This
will take your dancing to the next
level because you can apply great
technique to all of your movement
patterns.
3.
Take private lessons and speciality
classes. Taking private lessons instead
of just social dancing will fine tune
your lead or follow, timing, body
rhythm & movement, creativity,
style and over-all dance ability.
4.
Listen to salsa music outside the
club. Play salsa music in your car,
when working out in the gym or at
home. This will increase your knowledge
of salsa rhythms and timing, and create
the space for creativity.
5.
Completely
immerse yourself in the salsa scene.
Go to Latin clubs often to dance with
many partners of all levels and watch
others dance. Take lessons from many
instructors, watch instructional DVDs,
and learn about the history of the
dance. We are always learning through
all of our senses and in a short time,
you will feel comfortable and confident
in this new exciting world of Latin
dance. |
