We would like to thank everyone who attended the Salsa Prom fundraiser on June 28, 2008.

We raised $1,000 at the event, which brings the total to over $5,300 that Vancouver salsa dancers have contributed through our Salsa For The Kids events to improving the lives of inner city children in East Vancouver through the work of The KidSafe Project.

A special big thank you to the volunteers who helped decorate the gym and made it look so prom-like!

You can go out salsa dancing for fun every weekend, but this Saturday make the choice
to have fun and make a difference to inner city kids in Vancouver!

A salsa prom? What's the idea?

Salsa Prom is a salsa dance party with a theme! As part of our annual Salsa for the Kids series of fundraisers for The KidSafe Project, we're going to party like it's 1999, or 1979, or 1959... Dress up in fun, retro or modern prom wear and help us raise money for at-risk, inner-city children in East Vancouver.

KidSafe is a school-based program and one of the facilities it uses is the Mount Pleasant Community Centre gymnasium. High school proms were traditionally held in gymnasiums... hence the salsa prom idea was born... but for adults!

What should I wear?

Salsa Prom is a salsa dance theme party and a spoof of a high school prom. If you want to have fun and dress up in retro or modern prom wear, go for it. Wear vintage retro prom wear, dress like James Bond or Miss Moneypenny, or go contemporary and simply wear a pretty dress or evening wear. Don't forget a corsage for your date! If you don't feel like dressing up, we won't turn you away if you just wear jeans and a t-shirt!

Vote for the Prom Queen and King...

Who will be crowned Prom Queen and King? Salsa Prom will feature a Jack and Jill Salsa Dance Competition. Dancers who enter the competition will be randomly matched with a partner. Vote for your favourite couple in the competition and they will be crowned the Queen and King of the Salsa Prom.

Congratulations to Rommel & Andrea - winners of the Jack & Jill dance competition - who were crowned Prom Queen and King and won a gift certificate for brunch at the Westin Bayshore and tickets to the Monchy & Alexandra concert.
